The ‘Big Little Liars’ star talks about her engagement with the Jewish rocker and working with his daughter
Nicole Kidman may not be a member of the tribe, but she was once close to having a Jewish wedding.
The Australian actress, 49, recently revealed that once upon a time she was engaged to singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz.
In 2003, after her divorce to Tom Cruise, Kidman and Kravitz struck up a romance, but they kept their relationship private. At one point between her marriages to Cruise and her current husband Keith Urban, Kidman became engaged but her fiancée was a mystery. Kidman solved the mystery in a new interview with Net-a-Porter’s The Edit.
Discussing her new show, “Big Little Liars,” the upcoming HBO series about a suburban neighborhood corrupted by a violent murder, she talks about her co-star Zoe Kravitz, admitting she was once close to being the 28-year-old actress’s stepmother.
“Well, I knew Zoe because I was engaged to her father,” said Kidman. “It’s all in the family!”
Kidman speaks fondly of Kravitz, 52, saying “I love Lenny; he’s a great guy.” The Jewish rocker and Kidman linked up when he rented his apartment to her in the summer of 2003 and they reportedly ended things that December. (We hope it wasn’t over a Chanukah vs. Christmas feud). Though Kravitz is not religious and did not have a traditional bar mitzvah, he had what he’s described as a “spiritual experience” when he was 13, (we’ll take it).
Kravitz’s daughter, whose paternal grandfather, Sy Kravtiz, and maternal grandmother, Arlene Litman, were both MOTs, identifies as Jewish.
In her interview with The Edit, Kidman discusses suffering from trauma throughout the filming of the new show which contains a lot of violent scenes. She shared an experience of being so shaken up that one day during filming when she got locked out of her home she threw a rock through her glass front door. So in the end, there may not have been a rabbi or a chuppah … but Kidman ended up breaking the glass.
